This isn't a First World War book, as it's about the escape from Italian Prisoner of War camps in the Second World War.

 

However, it features several people with distinguished WWI service that are known to Pals, including two holders  of the Victoria Cross. These are General Sir Richard O'Connor VC and our old friend General Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart VC among others.

 

It's a good read ... if you want to know more about what happened, read the book - you won't be disappointed.
