But the question is at the beginning of the war im sure neither side thought about POW . So where were POWs kept inthe winter of 14 . Ive checked the red cross but no data only dare of capture 20 Oct 14 1st batt RWF. So where was he that winter. horatio2 Posted 9 April , 2017 Share Posted 9 April , 2017 Some 900 men of the Royal Naval Division were captured during the Defence of Antwerp in early October 1914. They were officially notified (see 'The Times' 21 December 1914) as being prisoners of war at Gefangenenlager Doeberitz, Germany. I do not know if the army POWs from later October were kept in the same camp.
LarsA Posted 9 April , 2017 Share Posted 9 April , 2017 (edited) I see you checked the ICRC. It might still be worth posting his name and number here for a double check. I have medals to a sergeant of the 1st RWF, captured in the same actions and who was in hospital in Münster in 1914 before being transferred to a POWcamp.
