towisuk Posted 19 June , 2017 Share Posted 19 June , 2017 (edited) On the 31st July 1917 tanks fitted with wireless were brought into action in the theatre of war (for the first time) in the Ypres Salient. Four tanks were used out of the nine fitted with this new means of communication on the first day of 3rd Ypres, two with the 55th Div and two with the 15th Div. To commemorate this "first use" of wireless in tanks my Amateur Radio club will be putting on a special station commencing on the 30th July. Information on the station can be found here....... https://www.qrz.com/db/GB1AFV And the position of the four tanks at the start of the battle is shown below.........(many thanks to the "Linesman trench maps package) regards Tom Edited 19 June , 2017 by towisuk

towisuk Posted 10 July , 2017 Author Share Posted 10 July , 2017 Many thanks for the "heads up" on Brian Halls paper....I have downloaded loads of information from the net about wireless use in WW1, but that seems to have slipped through my net regards Tom
