Please see the attached Memorial Card of Captain Miers of the Glawryan Yeomanry, attached as Major to the RFC. I believe he had Welsh connections.

I have not been able to find any references to the Glawryan Yeomanry in my books, or on the Web.

Does a Pal have any information on this unit.

Thank you

Tony

Airmen Died shows Capt R H P Miers as being ex 1/1 Glamorgan Yeomanry; he was from Clydach, Glamorgan. On 12 December 1917, together with Air Mechanic I Edmund Ward (53784), he was killed in an accident while flying in DH 6 A9744 of No 31 Training Squadron.

The DH 6 was a very angular training aeroplane, designed to be easy to repair. A photograph of A9686, an aircraft from the same production batch as Capt Miers' A9744 (A9563-A9762 built by the Graham-White Company) is below.

I hope that this helps.

Gareth

His wife, Vera Enid Bridges Miers, passed away (at Ashtead) on the 15th February 1951.

The family home, in later years, was in Maesteilo, Camarthanshire.

Thank you all for this elaboration. It all fits.

I suspect that GLAWRYAN is a misspelling of:

GLAMORGAN

But this would be surprising in a memorial card

I believe that the Welsh for Glamorgan is Morgannwg.
