robbie Posted 20 December , 2004 Share Posted 20 December , 2004 Hi, While I was trawling the CHeriton Road cemetery Folkestone on the weekend i came across a gravestone of T. Holliday Kent Cyclist battalion died 11th January 1917. A search of NA medal records revealed no record for this guy. Does anyone know what these guys did in the war, and how this particular man met his death? Robbie
Gary Samson Posted 20 December , 2004 Share Posted 20 December , 2004 Hi Robbie, One of the men from my village joined the Kent Cyclist Battalion in November, 1914. He received his training at Canterbury and then proceeded to Sandwich and Deal, on coastguard duty, and finally left Swindon, Wilts, in February, 1916, for India. He died in hospital at Ferozepore, Punjab, India, on November 1st 1918, from influenza and septic pneumonia. He's commemorated on a plaque in Canterbury cathedral. A history of the Kent Cyclists is held at the Beaney Institute (the library) in Canterbury. Gary
