Tom Morgan Posted 21 December , 2004 Share Posted 21 December , 2004 Can anyone tell me if it's possible to trace what a soldier may have been doing day-by-day if you can only tie him down to a particular RE unit? The soldier is Pioneer M. L. Greig MM, 1st Signal Squadron, Killed in Action 26:09:16. Any advice gratefully accepted. Tom
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 21 December , 2004 Share Posted 21 December , 2004 Tom - Just a thought as I am not an RE expert like young Terence, but would he not have been attached to the 1st Division? Ian
Tom Morgan Posted 21 December , 2004 Author Share Posted 21 December , 2004 Could be, Ian. That never occurred to me - shows how low my level of expertise is. Thanks for that suggestion. Tom
Terry_Reeves Posted 21 December , 2004 Share Posted 21 December , 2004 Tom Ist Signal Squadron RE was part of the Cavalry. I'm not at home at the moment but I'll send the details ASAP. Out of interest, I have an MM group to the same unit. Terry Reeves
Paul Reed Posted 21 December , 2004 Share Posted 21 December , 2004 Curiously enough I was looking at the details of this soldier over the weekend; the person interested is a friend of a friend. What I saw, and have checked on CWGC, showed him as the 1st Signal Company not Squadron. Which I took to be the 1st Divisional Signal Company, as Ian mentioned above. His CWGC details are at: http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/casualty_...?casualty=37172
Tom Morgan Posted 21 December , 2004 Author Share Posted 21 December , 2004 Friend of a customer at this end Paul. CWGC gives "Company" and SDGW gives "Squadron." I guess CWGC might be more reliable source. Tom
