LarsA Posted 3 December , 2017 Share Posted 3 December , 2017 (edited) Has anyone here read this book? I did, late nineties and have reread it since. I find it captivating with the experiences of WWI, submarines, western front; the inter war years and then WWII in Crete, Burma, North Africa, the resistance in Italy and more. Recently I aquired a WWI trio to a recipient I thought was fiction in the book - not so! Lieutenant-Commander Ralph Michael Mack, Captain of HMS Tornado, going down with his ship (mined) 23/12/1917. It's very special when fiction and life cones together. Should anyone have a photo of Lt-Cmdr Mack I would very much appreciate a heads up! seaJane Posted 3 December , 2017 Share Posted 3 December , 2017 There's a memorial window to Lt Cdr Mack in the church at St Margaret's Church in Paston, Norfolk but the Royal Museum Greenwich don't say whether or not the central figure of St Michael is intended as a likeness of him: http://memorials.rmg.co.uk/category/vessel-loss/page/2/ Might be worth contacting the Norfolk Heritage Centre to see if they have a portrait? https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/libraries-local-history-and-archives/researching-family-and-local-history/norfolk-heritage-centre sJ
