GWF1967 Posted 23 December , 2017 Share Posted 23 December , 2017 I purchased - Rhys David. "Tell Mum not to worry - A Welsh soldier's world war one in the near east" the other day and wondered if anyone else had read it. "This history recounts the experiences of a sapper of the R.E. serving with the 53rd (Welsh) Division in the campaigns in Gallipoli, Egypt, Sinai and Palastine. Drawing on a large collection of previously unpublished and highly literate letters home, the work throws a colourful light on the life of an ordinary soldier who had joined up at the age of 17 to follow his friends, returning home only after he had reached the age of 21 in 1919. The correspondence also tells us much about the life and times - of an ordinary family living in the expanding city of Cardiff in the early years of the twentieth century" The letters of Sapper 720, 452339. Dewi Emrys David, 110,000 words in total, can be found at www.rhysdavid.net.
