GrandsonMichael Posted 8 February , 2005 Share Posted 8 February , 2005 Having read the book ... twice. Which shows how sad I am ...I still have the same opinion. I still agree with you and crumbs you've got stamina..... On second thought, where's the dug out? I'll stand by you pal, but if things get rough, how's this Dugout? Cheers, Michael
Desmond7 Posted 8 February , 2005 Author Share Posted 8 February , 2005 It'll do me!! My favourite in this genre - Peter Liddle 'The Soldier's War' Is there enough room in there?
doogal Posted 9 February , 2005 Share Posted 9 February , 2005 Hi Tommy is the first factual book I have read from start through to finish, such was my interest and engagement with the subject matter and his approach. However, I did spend much of the first part wondering where the Tommy was in all of the detail about staff officers and army structure. I enjoyed it, it was informative, but by the time he got to the "Tommies" at about half way through, I felt like it had been an unexpectedly long set of context setting chapters as a run up. I still retain a high opinion of the book - though the title, however evocative, does not adequately indicate the nature of the content. regards doogal
