Guest petergreenham Posted 3 January , 2005 Share Posted 3 January , 2005 My Grandad Albert William Greenham served in the RGA. His medal record (attached) shows he started his active service in Egypt. He was a gunner, and then an acting Sargeant. I am trying to find out which unit he was in. The only pointer I have is Egypt in April 1915. Can anyone help? 20349.pdf
Guest petergreenham Posted 3 January , 2005 Share Posted 3 January , 2005 Sorry, forgot to mention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was living on the Isle of Wight, if this points to what Regiment he may have been in!
T8HANTS Posted 4 January , 2005 Share Posted 4 January , 2005 Hi Peter We have him mentioned in the role of honour (enlisted/serving) Whippingham listed in the I.W. County Press of the 3rd October 1914. I am afraid no further details given apart from serving in the Royal Garrison Artillery. A possible battery is 7th Mountain Battery RGA. It is also possible that as A.W. was a sargeant so early in the war, then my guess is he was a regular with about 8 years service, if my Great Uncle's service also in the RGA is anything to go by. Our research is ongoing. Pleasew drop us an email by the PM facility at the bottom of this post, for further contact. Gareth and Val I.W.
