Guest phin Posted 27 May , 2003 Share Posted 27 May , 2003 I've made some progress in searching out my great aunts service with TFNS in the Black Sea Army, largely in Egypt, Salonika and Constantinople. Thee are a number if ships she was transported on and I was hoping to get some info about them. I found a web site with some info but am a bit stumped on the Morea and SS or MV Gorgon. Can anyone suggest a place to find out more please? Phil
Terry_Reeves Posted 27 May , 2003 Share Posted 27 May , 2003 Phil The Morea was built by Barcley Curie and Co at Glasgow in 1908 for the Australian service and was used to bring AIF troops to Europe. I think it was a P&O liner, so that may give you another clue. Terry Reeves

Alan Lines Posted 3 June , 2003 Share Posted 3 June , 2003 Phil Southampton City library may well have something in their reference section. I know there are loads of Merchant navy records kept there. Staffsyeoman Posted 3 June , 2003 Share Posted 3 June , 2003 According to the Australian Defence Force Academy webpage, http://www.unsw.adfa.edu.au/~rmallett/Transports.html "Royal Mail Steamers These ships carried mail between Australia and the United Kingdom. Occasionally, they carried small numbers of passengers as well, including, on occasion, troops. The following Royal Mail Steamers carried troops of the First AIF: RMS Kashgar RMS Karmala RMS Malwa RMS Moldavia RMS Mongolia RMS Mooltan RMS Morea RMS Orontes RMS Osterley RMS Persia"
