Wolfsberg is a searing no holds barred novelisation of the events leading up to and during the Battle of Hamel where untried American Doughboys were embedded with elite Anzac battalions and 5th Tank Regiment Mark V tanks for the smashing victory on July 4 1918.

Author John Hunter Farrell's grandfather Lt Colonel John Farrell DSO MID led the 43rd Battalion Australian Imperial Force and Company E 131st Infantry Regiment US Army in the seizure of Le Hamel village itself and the recapture of the heights at Wolfsberg Ridge ejected a successful German counter attack.

The author is Australia's most experienced Accredited War Correspondent, and has written his homage to his grandfather with a concentration on battle and combat drawn in part from his own solid background in close combat from Somalia, Rwanda, Arabian Gulf, Timor Leste, Solomon Islands, Iraq and Afghanistan and the interviews he has conducted in the field with hundreds of Australian, New Zealand, British, Canadian and American soldiers about being under fire.

Wolfsberg tells it like it was, not how many want to remember it. Full of the fear, loathing, valour and magnificence of the Diggers, Tankers and Doughboy's who Hopped Over on that morning 100 years ago. All written from the viewpoint of the soldier at the sharp end.

This is the novel that your kind responses have been helping me fact check. Historical accuracy is the author's obsession. He has a lot of conflict experience himself and knows how important getting it right is.

Thanks! I have been working on the US end of Hamel for the last few years (it was men from this region and the ILNG's 33rd Div who were involved) so I shall enjoy looking at this.
