From the Australian Official History (Volume IV):

(p 362)

The area of the 1st Australian Division being fan-shaped,

this advance of April 13th-14th had increased the divisional

frontage to 13,000 yards. This was held on the right, from

the canal to beyond the Bapaume-Cambrai road, by the 3rd

and 4th Battalions of the 1st Brigade: and on the left, from

Louverval to the ridge between Lagnicourt and Noreuil, by

the 11th and 9th Battalions of the 3rd Brigade.

While specific companies are not mentioned by name the 11th was well mixed up in the Battle of Lagnicourt. See the Official Histories on the AWM website or grab this pdf for the particular action :

Lagnicourt - the German counter-stroke particularly from page 363.

Cheers

Edward

Are you after information on a particular person in the 11th Battalion or just generally C Company?

I have the two unit histories of the 11th at home so can have a look for you.

Andrew

The person I'm researching was Pte. EA Leeder 5133, but I would be interested in what C coy did. I believe that Lt Pope won the VC at this action and it would be nice if we could link our man to this. Leeder came from my village here in Norfolk but joined up in Bunbury Western Australia.

Unfortunately there wasn't much about C Company mentioned. The only mentions are as follows

From 'Legs Eleven' by WC Belford

"A Company reported that the enemy had broken through the company on the left (C Company) and taken up a position in an old trench threatening A Company's position and the enemy was still advancing from the direction of Noreuil"

From 'Fremantle to France' by Ian Gill

"Two posts of C Company were attacked and overwhelmed. The majority of men are captured when their ammunition runs out. One post holds out the entire day before surrendering"

Most of the extra details were about the actions of A Company to whom Lt Charles Pope VC belonged.

Unfortunately the POW Repatriation statements are not on the internet yet but are in the Australian War Memorial's Archive. I've had a look through these before for different units and they often give an indication of what happened to certain people in the battalion such as how they met their death.

They are often worth getting if you can afford it.

I copied the following from the Record search facility on the national archives website for the 11th Battalion. Many of these men would be from C Company.
