Rifle home on leave?

I find it very surprising that troops could be deployed to a war zone without weapons, even if they were deployed as a pioneer battalion.  The shortage of rifles must have been much worse than I imagined!

Similar sentiments are echoed in the 20/KRRC war diary :D
