Walter John Norton

Trying to find out more about a work colleagues Grandfather, Walter John Norton. He thinks he was in the RE and that he served in Africa until he received an injury in an accident and was invalided out of the forces. I have checked for his papers at TNA without any luck. If he was discgarged because of medical reasons, would the paperwork have been with his other stuff and therefore destroyed in WW2 or would it have been held seperately and still available?
