Thanks , Steve .
Ron Posted 12 January , 2005 Share Posted 12 January , 2005 In the case of the London Rifle Regiment, the 6th (City of London Rifles), the 7th Battalion and the 8th Battalion (Post Office Rifles) from the 47th Division were ordered to join the 58th (London) Division where they were amalgamated with the 2-6th, 2-7th and 2-8th Battalions, London Regiment , who were already serving there. A large proportion of their personnel, howver, was retained in the 47th Division and sent as drafts to other units of the Division. For example, the 8th Battalion sent its headquarters and 200 men to the 56th Division while 250 men joined the 1-24th and 8 officers and 300 men joined the 1-17th (Poplars and Stepney) battalions in the 47th. The order came from Army but the actual redistribution was presumably arranged by Corps. Ron
steve140968 Posted 12 January , 2005 Author Share Posted 12 January , 2005 Thanks Ron , it seems from your examples that the majority were posted 'locally' . I wonder if there were any cases of solders being posted to completely different regiments geographacally ! Regards , Steve .
