Why does he not appear on SDGW list

SDGW has many men missing. It is not a complete roll.

These tend to fall mainly into the category of those who died in the UK. Also, the number missing increases in 1918-19. Often these will be illness/accident casualties.

That I understand - but surely if he's listed on CWGC then wouldn't you expect an updated version of SDGW to also list him.

I've come across a few more not on SDGW.
