algrowen Posted 10 September , 2018 Share Posted 10 September , 2018 Hello. I recently bought this pen or pocket knife and was informed it was from the first world war. It has no makers marks or stamps on it anywhere, so could it be private purchase? Are the grips from the period? It measures 8.5” overall length with a 3.75” blade. Any information on it would be really helpful. Thank you
Grovetown Posted 10 September , 2018 Share Posted 10 September , 2018 (edited) While it may be period perhaps, it's not one of the pattern/ issue knives; which featured a marlin spike (hoof pick, rope splicer, whatever) and tin opener, or tin opener only. Cheers, GT. Edited 10 September , 2018 by Grovetown

Looks as though the shackle has been replaced, and hard to determine handle material from pictures, but should clean up well. Dave
algrowen Posted 11 September , 2018 Author Share Posted 11 September , 2018 Thanks for the input gentlemen. I suspected it was a private purchase as opposed to an issued one. It’s still surprisingly sharp. With regards to cleaning, it was in really bad shape when I got it. I think I’ll just lightly oil it now as it’s patina reflects its age.
