My grandfather was discharged from the Army (17th Kings Liverpool Regiment) in 1917 after receiving shellshock twice in the trenches. He suffered from epilepsy.

He returned home to his family (wife and 4 very young children) and some years later left home, without warning, never to return.

Noone ever found out what happened to him.

The four children are now dead.

Is there any way I can find out what became of him and when and where he died?

He kept two diaries (1916 and 1917) which are in my possession.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

The Salvation army has a missing persons department although mainly for tracing the recent and probably alive missing at which they are expert and very succsessful . However you could contact them and see if they can give you any pointers of where you might find him. I presume you have his name and age etc. i wish you the very best of luck with your research but sadly if he disappeared so totally and may have changed his name dont be too disappointed if you draw a blank, trite thing to say!! Good luck SG
