peteviolette Posted 21 November , 2018 Share Posted 21 November , 2018 This is a photo of William Henry Burton, I believe in Canadian Highlander Uniform. He was born in Northeast Margaree, Cape Breton, but moved to Aroostook County Maine in 1885. He had a son also named William Henry Burton. I'm not sure if this is William senior (born 1861) or junior (born 1902). Can anyone help with the uniform? Does it appear to be WW1 or could it have been a militia uniform from his time in Cape Breton. Thanks for all your help.
FROGSMILE Posted 22 November , 2018 Share Posted 22 November , 2018 (edited) He appears to wear the insignia of a Gordon Highlander, but the shoulder plaid (not normally worn by rank and file unless pipers, or bandsmen) brooch is not right. He is not a Cape Breton Highlander. He wears ‘drill order’ (white jacket) and is a qualified ‘marksman’ (crossed rifles badge on sleeve). There is something not quite right about the photo. It’s a prize winners rosette of a kind still common at agricultural or dog shows.

My money's on him being part of the 'Best Six Legs' winning combo.
peteviolette Posted 23 November , 2018 Author Share Posted 23 November , 2018 Is there a web site I can search to see if he was in the British Army? I did search Canada, but for WWI. But he looks in his thirties/forties (no crow feet around eyes) so I'm suspecting where he was born 1861 that may put it around 1900? And not WWI?
