o j kirby Posted 30 October , 2019 Share Posted 30 October , 2019 Hello, Is there any record of the names of the Liverpool Scottish Stretcher Bearers associated with the V C actions of Noel Chavasse? Cheers, Owain.
Rob B Posted 30 October , 2019 Share Posted 30 October , 2019 I have the Pen & Sword book 'Chavasse Double VC' by Ann Clayton. In it she makes reference to the awards given after the attack on Guillemont where 16 stretcher bearers took part - two received the DCM and two the MM. This was where Chavasse got his VC and his citation was in the London Gazette on the 26th Oct 1916. Private Edmund Herd was both orderley and stretcher bearer so safe to assume he was there. Pte Herd was also with him in ypres in 1917 when he got his bar to the VC, there is also mention of a Pte CA Rudd. Hope that helps.
