bartensabien Posted 11 January , 2021 Share Posted 11 January , 2021 I studied the liberation/capture of Gullegem (my home town) about 10 years ago. Let me know if you still need info. Gullegem was captured by parts of following divisions : 9th, 29th, 36th and 35th. The attack started on the 14th October 1918 near Ledegem. By the evening of the 14th the outskirts of Gullegem were reached. The attack was stopped because the artillerie could nog give the needed support (barrage) to the infantery. The day after the attacked was resumed. In the late afternoon the village of Gullegem was captured ant the attack was continued toward Kortrijk (Courtrai). About 100 Brittish soldiers were KIA duing the attack and were buried on the spot. In 1920, the bodies were exhumed and burried in the Dadizeele New British Cemetery. regards
