Kevin Mears Posted 18 August , 2020 Share Posted 18 August , 2020 I am interested in the movements of the 34th Field Ambulance after they went to France. Any information on their activities would be greatly appreciated. Further to this I am interested in a Pte Arthur Croft of the RAMC who was awarded the BWM and Victory medals. His Service Number was 65943. Does the number indicate a time period when he might have joined the Army? Regards, Kevin Mears
brianmorris547 Posted 18 August , 2020 Share Posted 18 August , 2020 Kevin Two men on the same page of the Medal Roll offer clues. 65946 Cyril Chown has a Pension Record which shows that he enlisted on 07/10/1915 in Northampton. 65950 Arthur Coney has a hospital admission on 11/05/1916. MH 106/1447. He was admitted into No 4 SH age 19 and the record shows 8 months in the Army and 3 months with the Field Force so he enlisted in September or October 1915 and arrived in France in February/March 1916. His Unit is shown as 133 FA. The names in the Roll are not in alpha order but are under A, B, C etc so you can extend the exercise looking for other 659xx numbers. clk Posted 18 August , 2020 Share Posted 18 August , 2020 Hi Kevin, After (free) registration, the war diary for 34 Field Ambulance is available as a free download from TNA - see here; and those of the ADMS 11 Division from here. RAMC records for numbers that bracket his 65943 number show: 65941 Harbour - enlisted 7.10.1915 65946 Chown - enlisted 7.10.1915 Wider 'near number' sampling may help to confirm.
