redbarchetta Posted 2 October , 2020 Share Posted 2 October , 2020 Timing could be better, I admit, but the centenary of their disbandment was only a fortnight ago, so it was now or never... 'Western Front - Eastern Promises', an exhibition on the Chinese Labour Corps is now open at The Brunei Gallery on Russell Square, London. It covers their history, illustrated by photos from the WJ Hawkings collection, many not seen before, and around 80 items of trench art made by Chinese labourers, including interpretation of the iconography of some of the more interesting designs. I have also been able to borrow a large silk banner presented to Dr Neils Poulsen, in charge of a CLC recruitment station at Zhoucun, Shandong, from the National Army Museum, again not displayed in public before. The exhibition is free, and open until 12th December, but you do need to book a visiting slot in the week prior to your visit, for Covid-reasons. More details HERE This is the culmination of a few years of planning and many months of work, with Covid coming along to do its best to spoil things, but these things are sent to try us... If you are planning on being in London this side of Christmas, do visit! Thanks, all.
