What does the writing stand for

Greetings from my hide out.

 

I would say that these are for ammunition for the U.S.  M 1917 Browning Machine Gun . 

I have one myself with just the same markings and have always believed it to be WW2, but I am not 100% certain

Brass fittings and finger joints for the .30 Colt Vickers. Steel fittings and dovetail joints Browning 1917. Yours is a Browning Box.

As a rule of thumb the WW1 boxes had leather handles, while the WW2 ones were canvas.
