armourersergeant Posted 10 June , 2003 Share Posted 10 June , 2003 Can any Pals advise me as to the position/stance taken when a General went on leave and another officer took over temporary command. Was it etiquet that the most senior general took temp command or was it down to the general himself to pick his choice. To give you an example Snow went on leave before 1st july 1916 and Montagu-Stuart-Wortley took over command in abscense of his corps commander , but was later relieved of his div due to his lack of success whist in charge of 46th div in july 1916. It seems he got no support from Snow who even backed his return home. If he was no good why did Snow have him as temp Corps commander or did seniority of rank choose the man. Arm. Guest Hill 60 Posted 11 June , 2003 Share Posted 11 June , 2003 I understood it that seniority counted rather than someones preferred choice.
