peregrinvs Posted 4 April , 2021 Share Posted 4 April , 2021 It’s a WWI British 1907 Pattern bayonet for the .303 MkIII SMLE rifle. Made by Sanderson in February 1916. It has the early pattern scabbard with a teardrop shape frog stud and no external rivets. It appears to have a 1923 re-inspection / reissue date on the reverse of the ricasso. t.ryan Posted 4 April , 2021 Share Posted 4 April , 2021 I think it was made by Wilkinson, not Sanderson. 'Wilkinson made the most Pattern 1907 bayonets' Agree with the rest. Cheers

Veteran Posted 4 April , 2021 Author Share Posted 4 April , 2021 Thank you.. is there anything else that can be derived from the markings eg. Country it was issued to etc?
JMB1943 Posted 4 April , 2021 Share Posted 4 April , 2021 (edited) The rivets are actually quite visible in the second photo. As far as I can see, there is nothing to indicate to which other country (Australia, Canada, NZ etc) it was issued. Therefore, issued to British Army as the default. BTW, Australia is D broad arrow D, Canada is C enclosing broad arrow, South Africa is U enclosing broad arrow; cannot exactly remember for NZ.
