FROGSMILE Posted 23 June , 2021 Share Posted 23 June , 2021 (edited) The badge is that of an other rank but the cap more in the style of an officer’s. Ergo, assuming the badge is contemporaneous, and not retrospectively fitted, then once again it’s probably the headdress of a warrant officer. I’ve seen it quite a lot before, but never been entirely sure if to secure it in place, or prevent it being pilfered.

Various circumstances affect the cloth in different ways. Edited 24 June , 2021 by FROGSMILE
squirrel Posted 24 June , 2021 Share Posted 24 June , 2021 The last person to polish the badge wasn't a soldier...you's be put on a charge for leaving that much metal polish on it.
john gregory Posted 1 July , 2021 Share Posted 1 July , 2021 Probably no slider on.

You can see the sliders been clipped and then the badge’s been stitched in place. It would have been difficult to clean without leaving some degree of residue even when using a brush after the polish dried.
