Defaced Roll Of Honour Book

For my money - somebody was leaving a set of initials and putting a star next to it. The shown star is very much like what americans learn to make as kids. The SMP looks like stylized initials that taggers use and the star is just an added exclamation point.

I think we might be looking a little too deeply into this, to be honest. It just looks like a doodle of a bored teenager to me (in biro - so not that old), probably an altar boy(!).

The star in a circle is one of the simplest doodles to do when not thinking (I drew enough of them on my books at school!).

The SMP (the "S" doesn't really look all that runic ,does it?) is probably just the vandal's initials (I usually carved mine into anything made of wood with a knife or a pair of compasses when forced to go anywhere with school rather than write it! ). It certainly doesn't mean anything to me with what I know of the extreme right.

I think I'd better clarify that point before anyone gets the wrong end of the stick and thinks I'm a "little Hitlerite" (which I am, sometimes! ).

I studied the British extreme right wing movements for my "chosen specialised subject" during my Govt.& Politics A level course. I've never been a part of any of them and am actually totally "apolitical" as I think that they all "p*** in the same pot" anyway !

Nothing new in all this I'm afraid. The Coventry Roll of The Fallen used to be available for the public to see inside the city war memorial, a seventy feet high structure. On two occassions pages were torn from it, so the practice had to be stopped. And when did all this happen? 1958!

I bloody well hope not......it's enough to make an old punk cry. Whoever did it - Go grafitti a wall somewhere, like real heroes.

Seriously- it's a shame when someone does something like this- but it's usually down to lack of forethought, lack of knowledge of what the Roll of Honour actually means and lack of manners.

Let's not foget that, as Tim mentioned way back, this isnt the actual Roll of Honour. It's a book kept next to the Rolls for people to flick through.

I dread you coming round here and seeing the notes I've made in the margins of some of my books.
