Chris Posted 18 March , 2005 Share Posted 18 March , 2005 Hi all Recently bought a batch of postcards and the two below were amongst them. Am useless at insignia, unless it is Lincs Regt, so can anyone help me with determining the units of these two men Thanks CHRIS Picture1

PhilB Posted 18 March , 2005 Share Posted 18 March , 2005 I think you mean Norfolk Yeomanry, Rob? Phil B
DrB Posted 18 March , 2005 Share Posted 18 March , 2005 First man is wearing an hussar uniform with the collars indicating the 15th, Kings Hussars. The second is Norfolk Yeomanry with an Imperial Service badge worn on the right breast to indicate the wearer's willingness to serve overseas. PhilB Posted 18 March , 2005 Share Posted 18 March , 2005 I`d go with Royal Dragoons! Phil B
Rob Bulloch Posted 18 March , 2005 Share Posted 18 March , 2005 You are of course correct Phil I have edited my post to read Norfolk Yeomanry. Cheers Rob B.
DrB Posted 18 March , 2005 Share Posted 18 March , 2005 m13pqb...sorry, I will stick by my guns on the 15th Hussars. Their collar looked liked the 1st Dragoons cap badge, but the collar for the 1st Dragoons was the French Eagle they snatched at Waterloo with "108" on the tablet below. Besides, the gent is wearing an hussar tunic, not a dragoon one. DrB
Muerrisch Posted 18 March , 2005 Share Posted 18 March , 2005 Imperial Service badge worn on the right breast to indicate the wearer's willingness to serve overseas. as part of his own unit: not as an individual
PhilB Posted 18 March , 2005 Share Posted 18 March , 2005 You may well be right, Dr B - I`m assuming the collar badge is similar to the capbadge! Phil B
Chris Posted 18 March , 2005 Author Share Posted 18 March , 2005 Hi Thanks to you all for the help, greatly appreciated. Can any of you tell me a good resource on the net for identifying badges etc, or a relatively cheap book, as i have quite a few more postcards i have never got round to properly identifying the unit of the man/men pictured. One more i am not sure on, if i am not pushing my luck Cheers Chris
