Pat Twomey Posted 25 July , 2022 Share Posted 25 July , 2022 Sapper Denis Gallagher RE (T) 1060 and RE 448630 was discharged on 20/09/1919. Is it possible to estimate his enlistment date from the above information? He also received a pension for a number of years following his discharge. Was married and lived in Abbey St., Cork. Would appreciate any help with this. Thanks in advance Pat
Admin RussT Posted 25 July , 2022 Admin Share Posted 25 July , 2022 It was quite common for a unit to allot service numbers chronologically - so you can look for records for men with similar service numbers. William George Morris joined the 3/1st Welsh Field Company on 4th May 1916 and was allotted the number 1069 - later re-numbered to 448638. I expect Gallagher joined a day or so earlier. Admin RussT Posted 25 July , 2022 Admin Share Posted 25 July , 2022 And 1049/448620 John Hugh Morgan joined 2nd May 1916. So those two sets of records straddle Gallagher's numbers Regards Russ
Pat Twomey Posted 25 July , 2022 Author Share Posted 25 July , 2022 That's excellent Russ - thanks for the information it really helps. Would you know if the (T) following RE means 'Territorial'? Pat
Admin RussT Posted 25 July , 2022 Admin Share Posted 25 July , 2022 Yes, T means Territorial (Force), short for TF. Regards Russ
