Spaceman Posted 25 November , 2022 Share Posted 25 November , 2022 Best guess: US WW2 37 mm armour piecing round with tracer.

Spaceman Posted 26 November , 2022 Share Posted 26 November , 2022 I'm not aware of any gun in 35 mm which is what 1 3/8" would be and therefore assume it is actually 37 mm diameter. This calibre derived from the Maxim-Nordenfelt 37 mm 1-pounder gun often referred to as a Pom Pom gun from the sound it made. It was first used during the 2nd Boer War (1899-1902) but the calibre was used throughout WW1 and into WW2. As said this is a solid shot with a hole in the rear for a tracer which I believe would make it WW2 as a best guess.
peregrinvs Posted 26 November , 2022 Share Posted 26 November , 2022 I think it is a WWII US M51 37mm APC-T* projectile that lost it’s ballistic and penetrating caps when it was fired. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/37_mm_gun_M3 *Armour-piercing, Capped, Tracer
