navydoc16 Posted 18 May Share Posted 18 May (edited) @shippingsteel might be a long shot- but perhaps it may be worth messaging the AWM for a picture or viewing of one of their pieces with a "known history", there is several that are family member donations that you may be able to compare to - they do have some rules about provenance, so donations that are accepted WITH a recorded history, generally have to be solidly attributed to an individual soldier - other donations will always be accepted but with an empty "known history" tag. There may be some Great War bring backs there to compare to. Just a thought. The IWM may also have pieces but I don't know how their research department works or what sort of public access John Citizen can get or how responsive they are. kind regards, g Edited 18 May by navydoc16
trajan Posted 13 June Share Posted 13 June This matter of a lack of good source / reference material for these bayonets is one that has long puzzled me. Those of us into British and German are overwhelmed with good reference material, xpecially for German, but stand outin bayonet studies. OK, so good catalogues of French, Belgian, etc., material, but likewise no studies the equal of Carter, etc. Trajan
Rafal1971 Posted 14 June Share Posted 14 June A few pages from the Italian book that the Chase Museum mentioned As you can see, the cut off blade of long bayonets were used to make the replacement Italian ersatz bayonet and assault/trench knives Best Rafal
