Thanks for the feedback Gents, and for sharing the Indian nomenclature and the example pictures. Based on this I agree that the markings are likely Indian.  This will assist me with my search for a more complete WWI british example.  I have a copy of the Broad Arrow II and it is an excellent reference.   

Question, does a similar list of dispersal codes exist for WWI manufacturers  

Navydoc, I see some of your posts on GB and you really know your bayonets!

Also inI. Skennerton, BRITISH SMALL ARMS OF W.W. 2: The Complete Reference Guide to Weapons, Maker’s Codes & 1936-1946 Contracts (1988)

Where they are listed Alphabetically by contractor (with code) and numerically by code (with contractor name)
