Always intrigued to know what theatres he was in. I am sure he ender up being a Battery Sergeant Major.??? I cannot work out why he had 3 different Army numbers. I thought you might have kept the same number throught your service years.
Admin Michelle Young Posted 23 April , 2023 Admin Share Posted 23 April , 2023 Men did not have unique service numbers during the Great War. If they changed regiments, they changed numbers.

This useful article will explain te number change post 1920. Before that regimental numbers were subject to the local unit regulations and changes in a man's number were not uncommon. https://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/soldiers/a-soldiers-life-1914-1918/new-british-army-numbers-issued-in-1920/

Tawhiri Posted 23 April , 2023 Share Posted 23 April , 2023 Looking at the date of his marriage it's highly likely that his full service record is still either with the MoD or has been transferred to the National Archives (currently an ongoing process so it could be with either). This should give you the rundown on both his WW1 and WW2 service. https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records
