Some excellent content regarding Special Army Order of 16th September 1913, (A.O. 323 of 1913) the four company organisation of the Battalion will take effect as under from 1st October next. Going even further back, I had wondered what had happened to the two flank companies. I am advised that 'In 1871 the Cardwell reforms gave battalions eight Field Companies and two Depot Companies.'
