NikkNak Posted 2 December , 2023 Share Posted 2 December , 2023 Hello there, I was wondering if anyone could help me make sense of the attached sheet from my wife's grandfathers WW1 war record please. Harry Wood was born in 1900 in Morley and was called up in June 1918 and demobbed in Nov 1919. We have been able to decipher some information on the other sheets in his records but cannot decipher this one, any assistance would be gratefully received. At the same time we were wondering if anyone may have an idea as to why we cannot find any record of medals for him ( 72237 - Harry Wood ) We have done all the usual searches but cannot find our man. Many thanks in expectation.
Admin RussT Posted 2 December , 2023 Admin Share Posted 2 December , 2023 Welcome to the Forum. I can't immediately find a MIC under that name and number. Can you see if his record has any other numbers - especially any at the end of his service. I can see from the page you posted that he was sent to the BEF, so he must have been entitled to medals. Regards Russ Oh, I now see he was posted overseas in 1919 so not entitled. Russ
NikkNak Posted 2 December , 2023 Author Share Posted 2 December , 2023 Hi Russ, I found that Harry had been given a regimental number (5/222010) when he first joined up, but this was then changed to 72237 on all subsequent documentation.

NikkNak Posted 2 December , 2023 Author Share Posted 2 December , 2023 I would have thought that Harry would have been entitled to the Victory Medal but can find no record of it.

NikkNak Posted 2 December , 2023 Author Share Posted 2 December , 2023 Shouldn't he have been entitled to the War Medal? He joined up in June 1918

NikkNak Posted 2 December , 2023 Author Share Posted 2 December , 2023 Hi Charlie2, Thanks for the links, I can see now why he wouldn't have been entitled to either of those medals, thanks for your help.
