My apologies if my question is in the wrong place but could anyone please advise what kind of military ID a deployed Officer would have been issued with - would it have contained a photograph, name rank and mumber of the bearer?

Thanks in advance.....

An identity tag (later a pair) bearing rank, surname, initials. Regiment/Corps and religious denomination.

If you have a specific officer in mind you stand a good chance of getting a copy of his service file from TNA. Bear in mind you will have to pay and from previous experience this can get very expensive!

i have not seen a photograph with any yet.

Not the British.  I believe the Americans used photo ID cards.

Many thanks GWF1967 and Dirty Harry for your helpful replies.  I'm assuming then that the only way an officer could identify himself is by producing his dog tags of no paper ID of any kind was issued?
