Matthew Pilcher Posted 1 May Share Posted 1 May Good afternoon all! I have acquired a Military Medal (on it's own, sadly) for the above Sapper. 140159, 130/F Coy, R.E.. I have found the relevant entry in the records at Kew (Gazetted 29/08/1918 - attached), but can't find any other information at all. I am an absolute novice at this sort of thing: I know the MM is a gallantry award for 'the ranks', and am also aware that all the relevant records were destroyed in the blitz(?). Any other help anyone can bring to bear would be very much appreciated! Many thanks in hope! M
Admin RussT Posted 1 May Admin Share Posted 1 May Welcome to the Forum It might be worth having a look at the War Diary (free to download) to see if he gets a mention: Search results: 130 field company | The National Archives Regards Russ
Ivor Anderson Posted 1 May Share Posted 1 May (edited) The gazette of 29 Aug 1918 contained awards for the end of the German Spring Offensive - late April 1918. His MIC shows that he only went to France after 1915 (no star). His LG entry shows he was from Abergele in N. brianmorris547 Posted 22 May Share Posted 22 May (edited) And my 1916 RE index tells me that he is named on two Establishment Tables in the WD of 130 FC, 12/09/1916 and 14/12/1916. Brian Edited 22 May by brianmorris547 typo

brianmorris547 Posted 22 May Share Posted 22 May Matthew Some War Diaries have Field Returns which show changes in the Establishment e.g. Other Ranks wounded or sent to hospital. 130 FC has a variation of this. I attach the December 1916 form which shows that your man was sent to hospital on 14/12/1916. These Field Returns are very rare. TNA/Ancestry WO 95/2236. brianmorris547 Posted 26 May Share Posted 26 May Matthew I only checked 1916 RE WDs so he might be mentioned in 1917 onwards. Brian
