MMs to 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers listed in the LG 11th Nov 1916

In researching a man from this battalion listed in this LG, I have found 10 awards to men of the 2nd Bn.

Bate and Williamson state that this was a retrospective gazette, containing awards backdated to 1914 and up to and including 1 July 1916.

The MM Index cards have no schedule numbers, but a common RP ref: 68/121/57 - could they be for the Somme on 1 July 1916?

Names found so far:

Sgt. Leonard Casper 5909 - died 9 April 1918

Sgt. George Wilkins 10390 - DCM for 13 Feb 1917 - discharged 23 Mar 1919

Cpl. Albert Chilcott 18138 - also DCM for 13 Feb 1917 - enlisted 7 Feb 1908 (SWB)

Cpl William Shand 7363

L/Cpl Angus Henderson 7051

L/Cpl John Moffat 8161 - died 12 Oct 1916

Pte William Alexander 10702

Pte Joseph Cook 7268 - service record on Ancestry - enlisted 20 Aug 1914. Prev 8 years service & 4 with reserves as 4909. Demob 3 Feb 1919.

Pte Andrew Jackson 12441 - enlisted 1 Sept 1914 (SWB). Discharged 25 July 1917. From Beith.

Pte Daniel Slattery 12664 - disembarked 11 Jan 1915, demobbed 13 March 1919

They were involved in the capture of Montauban on 1 July 1916. I have not found any of them listed in the 2nd Bn. war diary. Other MMs are listed!

I checked the 30th Division A&QMG war diary for July 1916, but it has no mention of awards.

2 CSMs were listed for the MC in the WD on 17 July 1916 (Source TNA):

Their MC citations are in the LG of 19 Aug 1916: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29713/supplement/8237  They are for earlier general work.

5 MMs listed in the WD on 28 Aug 1916 were in the LG of 21 Sept 1916: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29758/supplement/9201

Joseph Cook's MM Index card is representative of the rest (Source TNA). They have no schedule number, so it is not possible to confirm that they were consecutive, and therefore for the same action. It is hard to imagine 10 being awarded to the same battalion unless they were for a major action like 1 July 1916. They may then be Corps level awards.

Joseph Cook seems to have been from Glasgow. He was 50 days short of being 38 at enlistment on 20 August 1914 (b. June 1876?). Mrs Craig was his mother (MIC Ancestry):

Evidence is mounting that a least some of the above MMs were retrospective for 1915. These DCMs were in the LG:

The 11 men mentioned in the WD on 29 June 1915 were in connection with the action at GIVENCHY on the 16 June 1915.
