OK CHARLIE

CAN YOU CHECK

THIS HAS TO BE HIM IF HE WAS  IN THE 18 WELSH

HE IS ON THE MISSING PAPER LIST AS REES  J  FROM SENGHENYDD SAME AS GOSICH

26354      REES   JOSIAH

IF ITS NOT HIM I GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TREVOR

Rees 26354 was 18th Bn after 17th Bn according to medal roll.

Gosich looks (and sounds) a very possible mistranscription of Joseph or Josiah.

I couldn't find any pow record for 26354 Rees.

Given they have same home town, I suspect you have the right man but it's not proven.

That icrc record is a toten list. Ie list of dead.

He died 9/4/18 in a German field hospital.

Verst.= verstorben = deceased

He is 8443 of the 2nd Bn

Do remember to look hard for duplicates in view of the number of transcription errors we've seen. If you do it on a spreadsheet, worth sorting by service number as well as alpha just in case.

yes thanks Charlie

i have been writing them in ALPHABETICAL ORDER in each company  where found

with the right P A number and R returns number

i have not got all the returns sheets they are too hard to find!!!!!!

also putting  the date on the index cards

which by the way is nearly all 9th april

the others i have listed as  no company

once i have typed it all up i can double check all the surnames ' initials ' and numbers

with the N/A medal index cards.

as i know there are some typo errors with numbers and names

also just bought the book by Chris Baker the battle of the LYS 1918 SOUTH OBJECTIVE HAZEBROUCK

should be a interesting read

it was watching his video about it that got me started and i do have a medal for one of the men who was killed

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP

regards

Trevor

Out of 306 missing as reported in the 40 Div Diary, allowing for those subsequently presumed died and those lost in the admin of the medical chain that looks a feasible figure.

If he died in captivity I'd count him as pow (wou ded) first. That's what you would do for someone who died a couple of months later.
