Mudman Posted 24 July Share Posted 24 July Hello, I am trying to understand what the reference numbers in the Concertation of Graves documents represent. For example for the Marfaux Cemetery, one of the maps is the Jonchery-sur-Vesle 1/20,000 The grid numbers given for PT. Young in the image attached are: 220-850 x 269-900. I realize that the first numbers in the set 220 and 269 and the X and Y lines on the map marked in red on the map image. What I can't figure out are the second numbers in the set 850 and 900. I presume they further refine the location within the grid lines but I don't know how to interpret them. If you can offer some insight that would be great! Thanks Murdo
tootrock Posted 24 July Share Posted 24 July If you replaced the hyphen with a decimal point would that make more sense? Martin

Each square is 1km or 1000x1000m, the three last digits subdivide the square in meters. The last digit in your examples is always 0 which results in a 10x10m precision. Luc. Mudman Posted 24 July Author Share Posted 24 July (edited) UPDATE: I found what I was looking for. Another question, how do I find maps adjacent to the 20,0000 Jonchery-sur-Vesle one? is there a key that shows all the maps in relation to one another? The area I am interested in is the Bois de Coutron which lies close to the bottom edge of this map. https://archives.marne.fr/ark:/86869/s4hfzwcnljqg/6de2b3c2-23f4-48eb-adf6-4aa5c38bbb5b Thank you Edited 24 July by Mudman

You need a global map which shows all the maps next to each other, wil post a link later. The example below is an extract from such a map and has what you need. I am looking for some maps shown on this extract but can't find them: Ste Aulde, Chateau Thierry, etc.. Can you or somebody help me with these? Luc. The link for the available maps of France can be found here: https://archives.marne.fr/ark:/86869/jvnsxmwhf8kb You need the "Tableau d'assemblage provisoire des plans directeurs au 20 000" I hope this link will get you there: https://archives.marne.fr/ark:/86869/jvnsxmwhf8kb/31369237-e428-4c52-a9d5-cffa39a72987 Luc.
