Hello new to the Forum but I would like to know is is possible to locate this map reference? or could it be on many maps? thank you Andrew

Welcome to the forum. What’s the context, is there a sheet number as well? That map reference could be in many places.

The co-ordinate should probably be written A.23.b.6.7

That should have before it a prefix, wich is a number usually between 19 and 66, it could be any of the numbered squares shown on this index:

Can you show more of the letter or as Michelle suggests, give a clue as to the whereabouts, even if it's only  a name such as 'Ypres', Arras' or Mametz'

Hello sorry for the delay 'long week'! here is a copy of the entire note, it is inside a pigeon message capsule, I guess the recipient would have known where it was coming from. Thought it would have been good to pinpoint the area, thanks anyway, Andrew
