The 2 free slots are for the 2 soldiers buried on September 26, 2024.

The soldiers already buried are all anonymous

Hello Michel

Thanks for posting the photographs of the new extension that will be officially inaugurated on 26 September next.

The two boards featured in the photos ere presumably the graves prepared for the burial of the two British Unknowns scheduled for the inauguration date?

Do you have any information on when the existing graves were established?

I don't know.

Ah - is the inscription on the gravestones "An Unknown Soldier of the Great War" meaning the nationality of the remains were indeterminate ?

Good evening,
Nationality must have been determined by the discovery of objects and buttons, title & cap badge but without the number on the cutlery or other personal items.
the graves of unknown soldiers presented here were found on the construction sites;
- Expansion of the commercial area (cleared wood - Hugo)
- construction of the prison on Hill 70
- construction of the new hospital in Lens
The German soldiers were handed over to the German authorities.
No French soldiers in this specific area.

I was perplexed when I visited Loos, to visit Irish graves. Two locals girls said "Yes, the English cemetery". I replied "Irish". "Oh, they are all English". Pointing out that Canadians, Scots, Welsh, Aussies, Kiwis were not English they shrugged their shoulders.

We were present at Cabaret  Rouge for the rededications on July 2nd. After the ceremony  my wife and I were talking to the Padre who had taken the service and the Military Attaché from Paris, who said they were going up to Loos to see the new burials

There’s the St Patrick’s cemetery in Loos. To the locals, I guess they are all English.

That is exactly it. Perhaps I should have said that the French are Belgians,..or Swiss?

I shall be visiting St Patrick's two weeks today. If you let me have the name, I shall pay my respects for you.

Good evening,

let me know if you are celebrating a ceremony at the Lone Tree?
Why not come to my house as I told you last year?
We look forward to seeing you again.

regards

Michel

Yes that is him. I note that years ago when I visited (2012) the headstone had "Fufry". I contacted the CWGC and heard that it was fixed.
