Aurel Sercu Posted 13 August , 2005 Share Posted 13 August , 2005 Interesting photos Malte - is this the one that was at Wallemoelen? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Paul, The Ehrenfriedhofen in or near Poelkapelle are a bit complicated. When you write "the one at Wallemolen", perhaps you are referring to the cleared Cemetery approx. 200 m south of Charlotte's Varlet Farm, and this was called (on trench maps) E.F. Wallemolen. Or you mean the one approx. 1.2 km west of Varlet Farm ? That was called E.F. II bei Poelcappelle. So Malte's photo is neither of them. Which ones are left ? - E.F. III bei Poelcappelle ( 1 km south of the centre) - E.F. IV bei Poelcappelle (1 km south west of the centre) - Deutscher Ehrenfriedhof Poelcappelle Ost (opposite present British cemetery) - Gemeindefriedhof Poelcappelle - and Ehrenfriedhof Poelcappelle (200 m south of Guynemer Memorial) (and also a few others without the name 'Poelcappelle' in them.) So which one is Malte's photo ? I really wouldn't know. As there is no Roman figure, I would say, the one 200 m south of the Guynemer Memorial, but I'm not sure. Aurel By the way, Malte, thanks ! I had seen your first one in a book, but yours is of much better quality ! The second is great ! Much appreciated !

Aurel Sercu Posted 14 August , 2005 Share Posted 14 August , 2005 Cnock, How exactly is the cemetery described or named ? (See my yesterday posting listing some Poelkapelle German Cemeteries) Anyway, the houses in the background suggest to me it must be in (or very near) the centre. (So : probably the one I located as some 200 meters south of the Guynemer Memorial) Aurel

Cnock Posted 14 August , 2005 Share Posted 14 August , 2005 Sorry, the photo is only listed as 'Eherenfriedhof Poelkapelle', must have been near the church, as other photos on the same page of album were pics of inside and outside of the church Greetings, Cnock
Aurel Sercu Posted 14 August , 2005 Share Posted 14 August , 2005 Paul, Nice to hear from you again. Cnock, Yes, near the church. It's also called Ehrenfriedhof-Dorf sometimes. The fact that it has no Roman numeral is significant too. No need to give the cemetery a number I at a time that (officially) there was no II, III and IV yet. Malte Znaniecki Posted 14 August , 2005 Author Share Posted 14 August , 2005 Thank you all very much. On Cnock's attachment I can see the church of Poelkapelle in the background at right side of the photo. Malte
the german Posted 14 August , 2005 Share Posted 14 August , 2005 Hello, very interesting thread. Cnock You might be interested in a few additional information regarding your photo. The Jäger Arno (not Erno) Blüming was a member of the 2. Kompanie of the Reserve Jäger Bataillon 23. He died near Wieltje. Hinrich
