Paul Reed Posted 9 December , 2002 Share Posted 9 December , 2002 Being part of 55th (West Lancs) Division they were in the final stages of the advance in early November 1918, engaged in open warfare in the ground leading up to the outskirts of Tournai. The Escaut canal was crossed on 6th November, and on the 10th 1/4 Loyals moved from Esplechin to Leuze. On the 11th they moved to Villers St Amand. Hope this helps. Guest Michael Orr Posted 9 December , 2002 Share Posted 9 December , 2002 According to "The War History of the 1st/4th Battalion The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment", published in Preston in 1921, the battalion seem to have been resting from 28th October to the Armistice. Originally they "bathed and rested" in Wannehain. "A Divisional Paper Chase was attended by the mounted Officers on the 1st November." On 9th November they moved to Esplechin, on the 10th to Barry & to Villers St amand on 11th November. After the Armistice they continued with working parties and training, marching to Leuze on 14th November. On 25th the "Education Period" commenced & the battalion moved to Wattine the next day. Best wishes Michael Orr
