shinglma Posted 5 September , 2003 Share Posted 5 September , 2003 Name: BRADFORD, GEORGE Initials: G Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Rifleman Regiment: King's Royal Rifle Corps Unit Text: 8th Bn. Age: 24 Date of Death: 03/05/1915 Service No: R/32303 Additional information: Son of Charles Turner Bradford, of 69, Pelton Rd., East Greenwich, London. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Bay 7 Cemetery:Cemetery: ARRAS MEMORIAL Problem appears to me to be with date of death - I think this should be 1917 as give on Soldiers Died... Reasoning being that 8 KRRC suffered high casualties on 03/05/17 when they were in the Arras sector- eg some 87 killed. In fact on 03/05/1915 they had yet to embark for France. Anyone (Terry Denham?) suggest how this could be checked out and if necessary amended? Mike S PS - love the ease with which one can cut and paste from the new CWGC site! Terry Denham Posted 5 September , 2003 Share Posted 5 September , 2003 Contact CWGC on casualty.enq@cwgc.org and give them the details. If it is an obvious clerical error, it can be changed at once. If not, then you may have to provide more evidence. SDGW will not suffice on its own as it has too many errors.
shinglma Posted 13 September , 2003 Author Share Posted 13 September , 2003 i've had a reply back from them - seems to have been a scanning error when the database was formed. Thanks for your help Terry Regards Mike S
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 13 September , 2003 Share Posted 13 September , 2003 Mike, That was quick - I'm still waiting having sent them an e-mail 2 weeks ago! Just not having the luck at the moment Ian
shinglma Posted 13 September , 2003 Author Share Posted 13 September , 2003 yeah - I was amazed at the speed of their response - especially given that the reply came a couple of days ago. Mike
Terry Denham Posted 13 September , 2003 Share Posted 13 September , 2003 None of this is surprising. If your amendment can be checked immediately and is obviously the result of a clerical or scanning error, it can be fixed straight away - as in Mike's case. However, if more digging is needed, then it takes longer. The real problems start when the suggested 'correction' actually disagrees with the info supplied to CWGC by the military authorities in the first place.
