S Mugridge 153793 Sapper 1 Oct 1917 (at the Butte)

S S King 49313 Lance Cpl 1 Oct 1917 (at the Butte)

BORN;NEWTON ABBOT,DEVON,ENLISTED;NEWTON ABBOT,DEVON ((95TH FIELD COY.,R.E.).

Many thanks to both Johns.

I had the 1901 census on line, Samuel Mugridge is listed as labourer in a brickyard in Islington, which explains why he was a mate of my Grandfather who was a builder.

It is interesting that

as in the CWGC and his grave both have 49313
