Neil Burns Posted 30 September , 2003 Share Posted 30 September , 2003 Hi All, I recently purchased a BWM on ebay with no service number, named and the unit is 11th Infantry. Am I correct that this would be a South African receipiant in the Rand Rifles? Thought this would be the best place to ask! Thanks, Neil
CROONAERT Posted 30 September , 2003 Share Posted 30 September , 2003 Very likely Neil, as SA campaign medals didn't include service numbers during WW1. The odd thing is that the initials "SAI" usually follow the regiment number (in your case, the inscription should be "11th S.A.I." which is a bit of a giveaway as to the nationality. I haven't come across (a South African)one that simply states "11th Infantry". Dave.
