This is the first of two excellent studio photos I found today. Both were taken by Kingham's Studio in Bedford and both are signed by the subject and dated 25th December 1914.

Because the name cobination is so distinctive this one would appear to be of:

240642 Pte Errol Bruce Robertson 5th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders who died 29th April 1919 and is buried at Walthamstow St Peter in the Forest churchyard. He was the son of Maude and the late Authur Robertson of 69 Church Street, St Leonards on Sea.

The original is available to anyone interested for a nominal charge!

Two examples of the young white-collar Londoners who were recruited by the Highland Division in Sep 14.

3474 (later 240642) L/Cpl Errol Bruce Robertson. Born London: c. 1890. To France with 1/5 Seaforth: 1 May 15. Died of Wounds: UK 29 Apr 19.

3467 Pte Geprge A Truscott. Enlisted 5 Seaforth London: 14 Sep 14. To France with 1/5 Seaforth: 1 May 15. Medical discharge: 31 Mar 16.

And a very good illustration of the difference of 5th Seaforth uniforms from other Seaforth battalions - 'cat' capbadge rather than 'stag' and Sutherland kilt rather than M'Kenzie.

The cheque is in the post.

Jock
